Hatha is a blend of two or more yoga styles, it is meant to join together sun (masculine, active) energy with the moon (feminine, receptive) energy, thus producing balance and greater power in each individual. Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical postures or "asanas," purification practices, controlled breathing, and the calming and clarification of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance and strength and are practiced to improve the body's physical health in the pursuit of enlightenment. The Iyengar method is a safe and systematic progression of yoga asanas to develop each student’s ability and skill, both within each class and outside the classroom. The method develops strength, flexibility, stamina, concentration, and correct body alignment. The instructor adjusts each individual for common misalignment. Standing poses are emphasized at the beginning to build strength and ease of movement, increase general vitality, improve circulation, coordination, and balance. Postures for deep relaxation are introduced from the beginning to include: sitting and reclining postures and forward bends. Vinyasa Yoga is a powerful system of asana (posed) sequences designed to detoxify the body, align the muscular-skelital system, purify the nervous system and relax the body and mind while bringing new vitality and awareness to the practitioner. It’s the method of coordinating movement and breathing, known as vinyasa or power yoga. The class includes challenging poses for the seasoned yogi. The class is NOT recommended for those who are pregnant or need a slower paced program. (Yoga Flow)
